MONTREAL (AP) — A healthy Johnny Manziel is wondering why he’s isn’t starting for the Montreal Alouettes. The Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback returned to practice Thursday and asked out loud if the club had lost faith in him.The 25-year-old said he had been healthy and available to play for the previous two weeks Womens Kerryon Johnson Jersey , fully recovered from the concussion he suffered in his second start for the Als — a 24-17 loss to Ottawa on Aug. 11.“If the club had faith in me, I feel like I would be the guy, I feel like I would’ve been the guy after I came back from the concussion,” Manziel said. “That hasn’t happened, so I need to continue to get out here. And it’s the hardest part about missing practice, I need these reps to try to leave as little doubt as possible in my ability to play.”Manziel was at practice for the first time this week after being sidelined by a flu bug that required IVs to replace fluids Tuesday and Wednesday. While he said he good well enough to play Friday night when the Alouettes (3-8-0) host the B.C. Lions (4-6-0), Antonio Pipkin is expected to start. Matthew Shiltz is the other quarterback on the roster.“I hope this organization, I hope the people here haven’t lost faith in my ability to play, and I still get a chance to come back and get a chance to be in with the (starters) and play, because that’s what I came up here to do and that’s what I want to do,” Manziel said.Als coach Mike Sherman said it was “too soon” to predict whether Manziel would be the team’s third quarterback Friday.“Seems like he’s doing better, so we’ll evaluate him a little bit more. I really haven’t even talked to the trainers about him other than the face they gave him IVs yesterday at the doctors, and he’s feeling much better today Michael Roberts Jersey ,” Sherman said.Manziel, with a white baseball cap pulled low over his eyes, did little but watch Thursday’s pregame walkthrough at Montreal’s practice facility in the shadow of Olympic Stadium. At times, he spun a football in his hand.In a six-minute interview with reporters afterward, he said he feels as if he’s spinning his wheels with his second CFL team. What’s particularly frustrating, he said, is the Alouettes traded “half of an organization I feel like in terms of what they gave up to get me here.”The Hamilton Tiger-Cats dealt Manziel and offensive linemen Tony Washington and Landon Rice to Montreal on July 22 for Canadian defensive end Jamaal Westerman and receiver Chris Williams as well as 2020 and 2021 first-round picks.Manziel, who made headlines when he signed a two-year contract with Hamilton prior to the start of training camp, didn’t see any regular-season action backing up Ticats incumbent Jeremiah Masoli. It’s hard, he said, not to see similarities in his current situation.“That’s where maybe it’s a little bit lost on me, because I felt like I was brought in here to be a piece, had a lot of faith in me the first couple of weeks I was here . . . since I missed the games because of the concussion and then not getting to play once I was back has been frustrating for sure http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-a_shawn-robinson-jersey , because I felt like there was a lot of hope, and a lot of faith in me being the guy here,” he said.“How quickly that’s changed in two weeks is tough.”Pipkin has led Montreal to consecutive victories and is 2-1 as the club’s starter. He has 762 yards passing with a TD and four interceptions while having rushed for 127 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries.Manziel has started two games for Montreal, both losses. He has completed 27 of 46 passes for 272 yards and four interceptions.Manziel, who served as Pipkin’s backup for the Als’ 21-11 victory over the Redblacks on Aug. 31, recalled something Sherman told him when he first arrived in Montreal.“He said ‘This has to work, and this will work,'” said Manziel, who has known Sherman since the coach recruited him to play at Texas A&M. “And I feel a little frustrated at this point, because coming off the injury, I’m not getting a chance to play, and I’m sick, I miss a couple days of practice Teez Tabor Jersey White , and now I feel I put myself way behind where I need to be.”He added: “But I’m going to continue to be the best teammate I can be, and I’m going to continue to be the best person for this organization, regardless of who’s playing or what the case is, or frustration.”Veterans Drew Willy, Jeff Mathews and Vernon Adams are all on the club’s six-game injured list.FOX Fantasy AutoForm a Racing Team, Compete for PrizesPlay Now!Sunday open thread: Should the Detroit Lions have traded for Khalil Mack? Before most teams trimmed their roster to 53 players on Saturday, the Chicago Bears shook the NFL world by trading for former Defensive Player of the Year Khalil Mack. Not only was it shocking to see the Oakland Raiders let Mack go, even though they made it very clear they had no intentions of extending him, but to see the Chicago Bears send a couple of first-round picks their way was crazy. These are the kind of trades that only happen every decade or so. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to break the exact trade terms of the agreement:So even though the Bears gave up two first-round picks for Mack, the net total was actually a little less than that. They got a second and potential fifth-round pick back, while only sending a third and sixth away.Of course, that was just the beginning. After the trade was over, the Bears made Mack the highest paid defensive player in NFL history:Now looking at this from the Detroit Lions point of view Jake Rudock Jersey , this is obviously all horrible news. A divisional rival just got one of the best defensive players in the league and will have him around for the better half of a decade. The Lions, meanwhile, have easily the worst front seven in the division and it just got even further behind after this move. So today’s Question of the Day is:Should the Lions have made the trade for Khalil Mack?My answer: Now that we know the exact price for Mack, we can actually debate whether the Lions should have made this move. A month ago, I asked Pride of Detroit readers if they’d trade two first-round picks and Ezekiel Ansah for Mack, and 58 percent of you said no. Here were my thoughts at the time:So considering this trade is actually less than that, I would’ve been completely fine with the Lions doing it. But the question remains whether they Lions could have done this. Because the Bears offered him an extension, Mack is still on the final year of his former contract, which comes with a $13.8 million cap hit. The Lions don’t currently have the cap space for that, but they likely could have worked around that if they really wanted to. The real trick would be trying to fit Mack’s extension into future salary caps. For each of the six years on his new deal, Mack Will carry a cap hit between $22.3 million and $24.55 million. Though the Bears have an easy out after the 2022 season, that’s still a lot of cap to be spending on a defensive player. If the Lions were to do a similar deal, it would mean no more Golden Tate Matt Prater Jersey White , no more Ezekiel Ansah, and they’d have a hard time maintaining their offensive line beyond 2019. T.J. Lang, Graham Glasgow and Taylor Decker are all potential free agents in 2020, though the Lions have a fifth-year option for Decker. All that being said, the Lions’ lack of a pass rush is clearly going to hurt this team in 2018, and there’s no clear plan for the future. Mack would have put those concerns to bed in one fell swoop. Instead, the Lions are left sitting on their hands while the only team they were consistently beating in the division looks like they may have overtaken Detroit in one offseason. Your turn.
